IRONMAN Maine 70.3 – 2018

Team RTA triathlon club continued their 2018 season with an EPIC Team Race in Old Orchard Beach, ME which is about a 5 hour drive from northern, NJ. The race is perfect for first timers and the course is ideal for those looking to PR. Our triathlon club had a countless number of both (first timers & PR’s).

Destination races are always a blast! And there’s nothing more fun than traveling with a big group. RTA had about 30 athletes racing and another 40 supporters cheering.

Overall, it was a perfect day for a triathlon – no wind, minimal heat and low humidity. The race was amazing and exceptionally well run. Logistics were ideal. Plenty of places to stay and a family friendly venue.

The entire race and organization of the event was flawless              – RTA Club member

It was a total team consensus that we will be returning to this race in 2019.

Team RTA Takes on IRONMAN Lake Placid

Each year a group of athletes from Team RTA target IRONMAN Lake Placid as one of their top priority races. It’s an iconic race and needless to say, our triathlon club loves it. As a result, IMLP is an annual Team Race.

This year was IRONMAN Lake Placid’s 20 year anniversary. It is an incredible venue for athletes and spectators. It’s also the longest running IRONMAN in North America. All of this, only 4 hours from northern New Jersey. Jackpot!

If you’re thinking about signing up for an IRONMAN, THIS IS THE ONE!

This year we had a smaller group then usual, but none the less it was still an incredible race for all those who toed the line. Next year, we expect a bigger group including many first timers.

The lectures are free to attend and open to the public. We encourage questions & dialog throughout and do our best to tailor each presentation to those in attendance.

Feel free to bring a friend and enjoy an informative evening.

Initiatives are great and they can be motivating, but they go nowhere unless EVERYONE helps out. So, please consider doing YOUR PART in helping to grow our sport.

YOUR CHALLENGE: Find one friend who has never done a triathlon and get them to sign up for one this year. Do the race together. Tell them you got their back and assure them THEY CAN DO IT!

TEAM RACE: St. Anthony’s Triathlon

Guest Post by RTA Club member, Larry C

Last week RTA had their first Team Race of the year in St. Petersburg, FL. About 12 club members made the trip to Florida to race the iconic St. Anthony’s Triathlon and kick off the 2017 season.

Because I always enjoy reading race reports from others, I decided to write my own.

This report is a summary from my own eyes.

I tried to keep it short.

Becoming a better swimmer is a process. It takes time and it usually doesn’t happen over night. However, there are definitely a few ways to speed up the process.

We regularly get the question, “What and how long will it take… for me to learn how to swim (or improve my current swimming ability)?”

To help answer this question, we thought it would be fun to highlight one particular athlete whom we have been working with most recently. We’ll discuss the stroke improvements made, speed gains earned and the time it took to accomplish this.

To The Soon To Be, IRONMAN

A letter to the triathlete about to step up to the IRONMAN starting line.

To the Soon To Be,

Months ago, you made a decision; you signed a piece of paper, and decided to commit yourself, to what I believe is the most grueling endurance race on the planet. You made the decision to challenge your body, and your mind, and see just what you are capable of. But that was then, and this is now.

There has been 1000’s of miles logged since that fateful day. Early mornings in the pool, late nights on the bike trainer, and runs during the hottest part of the day, and those are just the basic elements. There were the lifts, the yoga sessions, the doctors appointments, but even more important, there were the birthday parties, the weddings, the days and hours of work, and the events that could not be missed. It’s been a journey, and not an easy one.
